Please allow 48 hours notice for booking.
Please remember that payment is taken in advance by cheque and a letter of confirmation.

Directions
By train: Trains run to Church Stretton from the North, from Shrewsbury and from the south, from Hereford. As this is the main Cardiff line, it is a good service.

By bus: National Coaches run in to Shrewsbury. Buses run hourly from Shrewsbury to Church Stretton via All Stretton

By car:
From Church Stretton: Take the Shrewsbury Road north out of Church Stretton. All Stretton is about 1 mile up the road. On entering the village, take a left into a small lane - before the Yew Tree Pub, signposted "Village Hall" on the right hand wall. Follow the lane all the way up until you come to a cattle grid. Continue over the grid up the track until you cross over a small stream and a car park opens up. The Bunk House is on the right, up the hill.

From Shrewsbury: Take the A49 south out of Shrewsbury. Go through the villages of Dorrington and Leebotwood. One mile south of Leebotwood are some craft shops on the right. Just past these look for the sign post for All Stretton on the right. Follow the road round and into All Stretton. On entering the village, take a right into a small lane - just after the Yew Tree Pub, signposted "Village Hall" on the right hand wall. Follow the lane all the way up until you come to a cattle grid. Continue over the grid up the track until you cross over a small stream and a car park opens up. The Bunk House is on the right, up the hill.


At the Bunkhouse

The bunk house is heated by underfloor heating.

The following items are supplied:

Bedding
Cot, duvet and bumper, plastic sheet, bottom sheet
Tea towels (not personal towels)
Crockery and utensils
Tea, coffee, sugar (not milk)
Salt and pepper
Toilet rolls

Kitchen
The kitchen is fully kitted out with cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge. The kitchen also has a payphone. There is also a tumble dryer.

The Rooms
There are three rooms in the bunk house. The "Synalds" and "Caradoc" rooms each have two bunks, catering for four in total. The "Hovers" room has two single beds.

Facilities
There is a shower and two toilets at the Bunkhouse. A dryer is available for wet days. There is also a boot rack and boot sluice.


Activities in Shropshire

Whatever your taste is in the outdoors, it is here for you to sample. The Long Mynd offers easy walks and bike rides for those coming to relax and more demanding hikes, rides and runs for the seriously fit. There are local stables where you can book horse riding for the hour or day.

Pubs and shops
The nearest pub is the Yew Tree - a 10 minute walk from the Bunkhouse. It serves a good range of home made food, but please remember to book in advance.
Church Stretton is a 5 minute drive from the Bunkhouse and has supermarkets, pharmacies and outdoor clothing shops. The town also has a variety of takeaways and restaurants.

Access Statement

In general the bunkhouse is unlikely to be suited to groups which may include someone who is a full time wheelchair user, as the building is set over three floors with internal steps and staircase. The bunkhouse may be suited to a person with limited mobility or other impairment who is able to stand and negotiate a minimum of three internal stairs. The location in the beautiful Batch Valley with immediate opportunities for hill-walking, will prove equally exciting to people with and without disabilities, who feel confident and capable in this type of environment. 

Location and Approach 

The bunkhouse is situated on the edge of the village of All Stretton on the track leading up to the Long Mynd. Church Stretton railway station is approximately 1.2 miles from the Bunkhouse. The Church Stretton shuttle bus (April-October) operates to the Long Mynd from surrounding areas.

2. The access to the bunkhouse is up a 200m steep track which eventually leads into the hills. It is possible to drive up to the gateway providing agreement has been reached with the hostel owners, but due to manoeuvrability restrictions near the gateway, it is advisable to reverse up.

 
Entrance and Kitchen Area.

3. There is a single 15cm step leading into the Bunkhouse and the doorway is 82cm wide. The Bunkhouse is located on three levels with internal steps leading to each of the three bedrooms. 

4. The light and airy kitchen area is well equipped with modern appliances including refrigerator, washing machine, tumble dryer, cooker and microwave, sink and kitchen units. The top of the kitchen table is 78cm and the height from the floor to the underneath of the table is 61cm. The kitchen unit working surfaces are at a height of 91cm.

5. The power points and sockets have been clearly marked with colour contrasting strips* to make them more visible

6. There is a payphone in the kitchen which is positioned near to the doorway at a height of 108cm.

7. Large print information, a colour map* of the area are provided

 
Bedrooms and Facilities

8. There are three bedrooms at the Bunkhouse all of which are accessed by internal steps. These are:-

a. Novers - situated down three steps and which has a door width of 59cm.There is an adjacent room with toilet and washbasin which is set at a height of 79cm

b. Synalds is located up five steps each with treads of 16cm. The stair width is 79cm. There are two sets of bunk beds, the lower bunk is 50cm and the upper one 106cm from the floor. There is also a child’s cot available.

c. There is a shower room adjacent to Synalds with standard facilities and a step in shower.

d. Caradoc is situated up nine steps on a dog leg staircase. The width of the stairs is 74cm. The bedroom door opens directly onto stairs with no landing.

NB The items marked with an asterisk are recommended, although they may not yet be in place.


Other Information 

Assistance dogs are welcomed at the bunkhouse.

The local pub is situated at the bottom of the track ten minutes walk from the bunkhouse.
